Session announcement: HR and people management
Staffing is one of the biggest challenges facing the social care sector at the moment, with 165,000 vacant posts in 2021/2022.
Care workers are often paid less than other sectors including retail, and while annual wages in real terms increased by an average of 1.8% from 2012 to 2021, they decreased in real terms by 1.5% between March 2021 and March 2022.
On top of this, Brexit has made it harder for services to recruit European employees, cutting off part of the pipeline for new staff.
In this session, three leading HR professionals will be sharing their tips for not just recruiting staff, but recruiting the right people and making sure they stay.
Neil Eastwood is the author of the book Saving Social Care (review coming soon to a blog near you..), and founder and CEO of the employee referral app Care Friends, where staff can recommend potential new team members. The app won the 2023 King’s Award for Innovation.
Sonia Rai is founder and director of HR consultancy Nectar HR, which has significant experience in the social care sector. Sonia is our Care Managers Show Agony Aunt – check out her advice on managing your time off work and making your staff want to stick around.
