Session announcement: CQC: The challenges ahead
As the health and social care sector’s regulatory body, the CQC and its ratings have the power to significantly affect the reputation and success of a care service.
Although it plays a crucial role in ensuring high care and safeguarding standards are upheld across the sector, the CQC has recently faced criticism for downgrading services’ ratings over minor issues.
It also appears the regulator may be penalising organisations more strictly now than before the pandemic; Caring Times reported that prosecutions were 50% higher in 2020-2022 than in 2017-2019. The average CQC-levied fine also increased from £160,000 pre-pandemic to £550,000 now.
Against this backdrop, care managers are under pressure to make sure their service has no infractions – however small – against CQC regulations.
Join ex-CQC inspector Bhavna and her fellow director Charlie for this interactive session, where you and your fellow managers will:
- Learn how to mitigate risk in the most-failed areas of CQC inspections: medication, care planning, and staffing
- Discuss the new CQC assessment process
- Consider real case studies and how to handle them
- Get your hands on a master check-list to prepare for CQC inspection
In the meantime, check out Charlie’s helpful articles for the Care Managers Show blog: on how to be rated ‘good’ under the ‘well-led’ KLOE and on the CQC’s changing approach to technology as the regulator pushes for increased digitisation.
Charlie will also be leading a session on technology and the CQC in the Technology theatre, so if you’re interested in digitisation, get that in your diary to learn more!
